From Northland Cathedrals "The Sounds Of Christmas" concert, December 19, 2021. I have been debating whether to share this video. The performance isn't perfect - a few things went sideways, a few cracked notes - but in reality, isn't the goal expression, not perfection? I frequently use the quote attributed to Beethoven that to play a wrong note is inconsequential, but to play with the wrong feeling is inexcusable. I believe the bottom line of a performance is made up of three distinct factors: 1. Did the performance represent the intent of the composer or arranger? 2. Did the audience enjoy the performance? 3. Did I have fun? Even though I didn't hit my mark of playing everything the way I wanted, I still can answer YES to all three of the factors.
