Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix | Dark, Rich & Naturally Sweetened (No Refined Sugar!)
Make this dark and rich homemade hot cocoa mix to keep cozy all winter long — it’s creamy, shelf-stable, and made with coconut sugar instead of refined sugar. This mix fills a quart jar and makes the perfect family treat or holiday gift in a jar! In this video, I’ll show you exactly how to blend Dutch cocoa, black cocoa, coconut sugar, and powdered milk into a perfectly balanced, naturally sweetened cocoa mix that’s not too sweet and full of deep chocolate flavor. Here is the recipe for those would like it now: Dark & Rich Hot Cocoa Mix 3 cups powdered milk (whole milk powder if you can find it; nonfat also works) 2 cups coconut sugar (use up to 2¼ cups if you want it a touch sweeter) 1 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder ½ cup black cocoa powder ½ tsp salt Optional but highly recommended: 2 tsp instant espresso powder (brings out chocolate depth — no coffee flavor) 1 tsp cinnamon or ½ tsp vanilla powder for warmth (I used just cinnamon) 1.Blend (recommended): Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor in batches until the texture is fine and uniform (this helps the coconut sugar and cocoa dissolve better). 2.Jar it up: Pour into a quart-size glass jar (a wide-mouth mason jar works great). Tap gently to settle the mix.
