minute WORDS 470 - A Brief Commentary on the Gospel - January 7, 2026 Matthew 4:12-17, 23-25 When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. But he left Nazareth and came and settled in Capernaum by the lake, on the border of the lands of Zebulun and Naphtali. This was to fulfill the words of the prophet Isaiah: "Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, on the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles! The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light; on those who sat in the land of the shadow of death, light has dawned." From that time on, Jesus began to teach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Jesus went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people. And news about Him spread throughout all Syria. So they brought to Him all who were afflicted with various diseases and ailments: demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics. And He healed them. And great crowds followed Him from Galilee and the Decapolis, from Jerusalem, from Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
