In this episode, I’ll take you through the vibrant Sajinqiao Food Street, located in the Hui Muslim quarter of Xi’an, China. Tucked beside the ancient city walls, this hidden alley is one of the cultural symbols of the Hui Muslim community. In the early morning, it transforms into a bustling street market and a true paradise for halal street food lovers. The Sajinqiao morning market is full of energy, with stalls selling lamb paomo, crispy beef pies, various types of local bread, liangpi (cold noodles), niangpi, soup dumplings, and other traditional Xi’an-style halal breakfast foods. There are also vendors offering fresh fruits, spices, and daily essentials, giving the market a strong local vibe. Warm and down-to-earth, the stall owners call out to customers with the smell of food drifting through the air. In this video, I’ll guide you through this charming old alley, capturing the craftsmanship and warmth of the vendors. You’ll feel the lively morning spirit of Xi’an, starting from a steaming bowl of beef hula soup and crispy fire-baked buns from the Ma family, to sweet and soft persimmon cakes, and ending with golden, flaky beef pies. Each bite tells the story of this ancient city. If you want to experience the most authentic Xi’an morning, follow me into Sajinqiao and let’s begin this early morning journey of flavors.
