CT (computed tomography) scan head plain is an imaging test used to produce a picture of the internal structure of the head such as bones and soft tissues. The CT scan uses a series of special x-ray equipment to capture the images from different angles to evaluate brain tumors, head injuries, severe headaches, dizziness, bleeding, stroke, and brain tumors. CT scan head plain doesn’t involve the use of contrast media. This helps the doctor in assessing the skull, brain, eye sockets, and sinus. A CT scan Head Plain is recommended to help the doctor in the diagnosis of the mentioned below conditions such as: Congenital defects of the head Brain infection Brain tumor Fluid accumulated in the brain Brain Injury Stroke Source of bleeding in the brain Blood clots in the brain Malformations of the skull This procedure is also recommended to plan for the treatment therapy for brain cancer or tumor. It is also used to detect the reasons for the conditions such as: Abnormal size of the head Severe Headache Fainting Tingling sensation Difficulty in swallowing and speaking etc. Procedure CT technologists will instruct you to lie straight on the scanning table attached to the CT scanning machine. The scanning table will slide into the center of the CT scanner. The rotating x-ray beams around your head and take a series of x-ray. The computer system will be used to combine the x-ray images to create detailed pictures of your head. It takes about 15 mins. to complete the CT Scan procedure. Benefits and Risks of computed tomography of Head Benefits: It is possible to create an image of bones, soft tissues, and blood vessels at a time. For emergency cases, as compared to other imaging procedures, it reveals the problem such as the source of bleeding in the head and internal injuries to the head. As compared to other imaging procedures, it is less sensitive. Risks: Discomfort because of lying still on the hard table Exposure to the radiation Risk to the fetus so it is avoided in pregnant ladies.
