Approved for publication! This was Lieutenant Colonel Mahmoud Khir al-Din, previously only known to the public as Lieutenant Colonel M. IDF spokesperson released the name and photo of this fallen Druze IDF hero. He served in the Special Operations Division and was killed in 2018 in a highly secret operation in Khan Yunis (Gaza) and he was the only IDF soldier whose name, picture and burial place was prohibited from being published even after his death due to a highly sensitive role he played in that mission. For his incredible work in this operation he was awarded The Chief of Staff's Medal, which is a very high medal to receive and is given by the head of the army. After his death he was posthumously promoted from Major to Lieutenant Colonel. He was 41 years old and was the eldest son of his parents Ahmad and Nazira. He was married to Nahad and had two sons. Only his burial place will not be released per the families request for privacy and no interest in publicity.
