David Cameron's hopes of curbing migrant benefits received a major boost today after German Chancellor Angela Merkel said EU treaty change to meet British demands was possible. Mr Cameron has insisted changes to the EU's treaties are needed in order for him to be able to stop foreign workers claiming benefits and tax credits for the first four years they are in the UK. But the Prime Minister's proposals have come up against serious opposition from other EU leaders, with the Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz this morning flatly rejecting any bid to block Eastern European workers receiving benefits in Britain.
