Youths running from Israeli stun grenade STORYLINE Around a hundred and fifty Palestinians defied an Israeli Army curfew in Ramallah after loudspeakers on mosques urged people to take to the streets. Men, women and children turned out on Ramallah's main street - Al-Irsal, which leads to the besieged compound of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, and beat on pots and pans, garbage cans and anything else they could find as Israeli troops looked on. Demonstrators said they intended to march toward Arafat's compound, in the latest outpouring of support for the beleaguered Palestinian leader since Israel began a military assault on his compound on Thursday. Some cars also defied the curfew, honking their horns and with people beating on the roofs. Most of those who turned out were locals, although there were a few foreign peace activists among the crowd. Later Palestinian youths began to throw stones at an Israeli armoured personnel carrier and Israeli soldiers. The soldiers responded by firing stun grenades at the youths. So far no deaths or injuries have been reported. A day earlier, Palestinians observed a commercial strike and staged more protests, burning tyres and pelting soldiers with rocks - events rarely seen in recent months. About 10,000 rallied in Gaza, many of them school children bused in for the demonstration.
