Research and Treatment Development for Unknown Ataxia with Family History

Research and Treatment Development for Unknown Ataxia with Family History

The National Ataxia Foundation is proud to host this webinar presented by Dr. Justin Wolter on July 21st, 2025. In "Research & Treatment Development for Unknown Ataxia with Family History", she taught us how it is studied and gave an overview of the current state of research and drug development. She completed her graduate studies in molecular biology at the Université de Montréal studying the genetic of neurological diseases in the French-Canadian population. She then continued her training as a postdoctoral fellow in the Human Genetics program at McGill University, where she expanded her expertise in genetic studies by developing bioinformatics skills. Dr. Tetreault performed exome and whole-genome sequencing analysis as part of the Care for Rare consortium. She also established research project using RNA-sequencing to identify the genetic causes for unresolved patients. Overall, she contributed to the identification of 19 novel disease genes. Dr. Tétreault aims to combine multiple omics to study the genetic etiology of neuromuscular and neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Tétreault's career has been highly productive, with over 70 publications. She has received funding from several Canadian and American organizations as well as a grant from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation to establish a translational platform to study rare and common neurological diseases. She also received the David Green Award for emerging researcher, the Early career award from CRCHUM and a FRQS Junior 2 salary award. About the Series: NAF is producing a series of monthly educational webinars that focus on one type of Ataxia at a time. Each month we will feature a different type. Clinical experts will join us to take a look at the causes and symptoms of the disease, the typical diagnostic journey for those affected, and what to expect for clinical care. Research experts will teach us how the disease is studied and give an overview of the current state of research and drug development.
