Sambisari Temple is a Hindu (Shiva) temple located in Purwomartani, Kalasan, Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta. Its position is approximately 12 km east of the city of Yogyakarta towards the city of Solo or approximately 4 km west of the Prambanan Temple complex. This temple is estimated to have been built in the early decades of the 9th century during the reign of King Rakai Garung who reigned in the Ancient Mataram Kingdom from the Syailendra dynasty. This estimate is based on the writing style of the gold plate which reads "om shiva shtana" which was found in 1977 in this temple complex, as well as information from the Wanua Tengah III inscription which states that Rakai Garung ruled Medang in the early 9th century. This temple was discovered by accident in 1966 by a farmer in Sambisari Hamlet, Purwomartani Village. After being examined by the Yogyakarta Archaeological Center, it was decided that this finding was in the form of an enshrinement complex. The restoration was carried out afterwards and was completed in 1986. The name of this hamlet was later enshrined as the name of the temple. The basic position of Sambisari Temple was located 6.5 meters below ground level when it was found, most likely because it was buried by lava from Mount Merapi which erupted and caused a terrible disaster in the early 11th century (probably 1006). This can be seen from the many stones of volcanic material around the temple. The restoration of Sambisari Temple was completed in 1986, and since then Sambisari Temple has become one of the cultural tourism objects in Yogyakarta. The temple complex is surrounded by two layers of stone fences. The outer fence has dimensions of 50 m × 48 m, in the form of a low stone fence. Layers of the inner fence made of stone with a height of 2 m with a thickness of 50 cm. Inside the fence stands the main temple accompanied by three perwara (companion) temples. The main building is surrounded by a 1.2 m high ledge, so that the body of the temple can only be seen from the outside of the wall. The entrance stairs are on the west side, and so the temple faces west. This facing direction is the same as Ijo Temple, but opposite to Prambanan Temple or, similarly, Kedulan Temple. The height of the main temple to the top reaches 7.5 m from the base. The body of the temple stands on a batur which has a square base plan of 13.65 m² with a height of about 2 m. The body of the temple is also laid out with a square base with an area of 5 m². On the outside of the main building wall there are niches on each side. The west side has an entrance to the temple, and on either side there are niches filled with statues of the guardian deities: Mahakala and Nandiswara. The niche on the north side is occupied by a statue of Durga Mahisasuramardini, the east side is occupied by a statue of Ganesha, and the south side is occupied by a statue of Agastya (Shiva Mahadeva). Inside the main temple there is a quite large phallus and yoni. During the excavation, various other objects were found including pottery, jewelry, metal mirrors, and inscriptions (Sambisari Gold Plate Inscription). source: wikipedia.com ============================================================== This video can be enjoyed to pass the time when you have nothing to do, when you are alone at home and need a voice to accompany you or when you are studying and need a little sound so it's not too lonely. ============================================================== Eternity by Another Kid   / another-kid   Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 Free Download / Stream: https://bit.ly/3pzF8FS Music promoted by Audio Library • Eternity – Anothe... ============================================================== #walkaround #candi #yogyaistimewa #4k
