Changing Times - Ike White (lp 'Changin Times' Paga Associates 1976)

I picked up this album during the rare groove scene at the end of the 80's. I was interested in the liner notes. The album was recorded at the Tehachapi State Prison, which comes under the jurisdiction of the California Department Of Corrections. The album was still shrink wrapped, so the only other information at hand, was a quote from Stevie Wonder on the liner notes, which reads 'There are many 'Ike White's in this world. Let's give these men a fare, making not the color of his skin his final fate for being behind bars'. That was enough to make me want to pick up the album and I was delighted I did so. 'Changing Times' is almost Bobby Caldwell meets George Benson. This is a long track that builds, and is, in my humble opinion, the best record recorded behind bars I have ever heard. Others seem to agree these days, as the asking price has increased substantially over the years.
