Highlights vs. Houston Astros (6.18.22)
The Chicago White Sox shut out the Houston Astros, 7-0, on their home turf at Minute Maid Park on June 18, 2022. Starting pitcher Johnny Cueto was dominant on the mound. He earned his first win of the season after pitching 7.0 scoreless inning, allowing only two hits and earning 5 strikeouts. Sexy Zavala opened the gates to the White Sox hitting parade, knocking a single off of Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander in the 3rd inning. Danny Mendick followed but with a single of his own putting Seby Zavala in scoring position. Andrew Vaughn hit the third straight single of the inning, loading the bases, bringing Luis Robert up to bat. Luis Robert then cracked a sharp line drive to right field bringing in two runs. The 2-RBI he scored in the inning totaled for an even 100-RBI in Luis Robert’s career. José Abreu brought more insurance runs in, following Luis Robert’s single with a double that scored two more runs, giving the Sox a 4-0 lead after three. The White Sox didn’t stop there. In the fourth inning, a fielding error made by Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, which allowed Andrew Vaughn to reach first base and Josh Harrison to score. Luis Robert had his 3rd hit of the game, sending Adam Engel and Andrew Vaughn home and giving the White Sox a dominating lead of 7-0. Luis Robert and Andrew Vaughn both ended their offensive games going 3 for 5 at the plate. Reynaldo López came in to relieve Johnny Cueto in the eighth and pitched 2.0 scoreless inning to lock in a White Sox victory. The win is the first time the White Sox have won at Minute Maid Park since May of 2019. The victory puts the White Sox within one game of .500.
