This is a near-complete VHS transfer of the broadcast of the 1987 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Oakland, CA, from WNBC-TV Channel 4 in New York. Bob Costas handles pregame duties, with Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola on the call of the game and Marv Albert reporting from the stands. The video picks up during American League reserve player introductions and includes the introduction of the AL starting lineup, honorary captains Billy Williams and Catfish Hunter, a remembrance of Dick Howser, and performances of "O Canada" and "The Star-Spangled Banner" by the Four Tops. Some game action is missing due to recording pauses during commercial breaks early in the game, namely a leadoff double by Dave Winfield in the bottom of the 2nd inning (recording resumes during a replay of Cal Ripken Jr. lining into a subsequent double play). Commercials are shown consistently beginning prior to the 4th inning. A portion of the 7th inning is missing due to changing videotapes, from the middle of Tim Wallach's at-bat (resulting in a strikeout) in the top half, to just before Mark McGwire's bid for an opposite-field home run in front of his home crowd ending the bottom half. There are some tracking issues starting in extra innings on the second tape, which runs out during Juan Samuel's at-bat that ends the top of the 11th, with Tim Raines on first base. In the top of the 13th, Raines would stroke a 2-RBI triple for the only runs of the game, and be named MVP for his efforts. Raines was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2017.
