Batman Telltale Series S2 Episode 2: The Pact (Oct. 3rd, 2017) In Episode 2 of Batman: The Enemy Within, titled The Pact, Bruce Wayne is forced into an uneasy alliance with Amanda Waller as he infiltrates Gotham’s most dangerous criminal organization. Waller, using the knowledge of Bruce’s secret identity as leverage, pressures him into working undercover with The Pact, a group previously led by The Riddler. As Gotham erupts in chaos with a series of robberies and attacks, Bruce faces immediate danger at the hands of Bane. After being overpowered, he is left with the choice of calling either Waller or Jim Gordon for help. Choosing to call Gordon reaffirmed my loyalty to the GCPD, strengthening our bond, though it raised concerns about Waller’s growing influence. This pivotal decision set the stage for the conflicts ahead, where Bruce had to carefully balance his alliances while maintaining his moral compass. Seeking entry into The Pact, Bruce turns to John Doe, a former Arkham patient whose obsession with him continues to grow. At the Stacked Deck bar, John provides insight into The Pact’s internal struggles, revealing that Riddler was their leader. In a tense interaction, John asks Bruce for a pinky swear of honesty, which I accepted to solidify his trust. A violent altercation with a drunk patron, Willy Deever, further bonded Bruce with John, who was excited by the aggression I displayed. Shortly after, John introduces me to Harley Quinn, who immediately tests Bruce’s composure and resourcefulness. Managing to win her approval, she assigns Bruce the task of stealing a high-security Phalanx Key from Wayne Enterprises, a mission that brings him into conflict with Tiffany Fox. At Wayne Enterprises, Bruce discovers that Tiffany has found the Phalanx Key. My previous choice to be honest with her about Lucius’ involvement with Batman allowed me to convince her to hand over the device without resistance. However, she remains skeptical and concerned for my safety. Successfully retrieving the key without violence, Bruce avoids raising suspicions while maintaining Tiffany’s fragile trust. Following this, Bruce’s growing distance from Waller becomes evident when I chose to meet with Gordon instead. He provides insight into Harley’s troubled past, revealing how her father’s struggles with mental illness shaped her current identity. This knowledge later proves useful in managing her volatile personality. Meanwhile, Waller’s frustration grows as I continue to side with Gordon, further complicating our alliance. Bruce’s initiation into The Pact is met with resistance from Bane and Mr. Freeze, both of whom demand proof of loyalty. Using different tactics, I gained their trust—brutalizing an opponent to impress Bane and expressing sympathy for Freeze’s wife, Nora, to earn his respect. With their approval, The Pact prepares for a daring heist, targeting an Agency convoy transporting a mysterious package. During the mission, I strategically minimized casualties, choosing to stop Harley’s destructive tendencies instead of Bane’s brute force. This action positioned Bruce as a figure of control rather than chaos, but it also created tensions within The Pact. Returning to their hideout, the stolen package is revealed to be Riddler’s corpse, hinting at a larger mystery. The shock is further compounded when an unexpected ally, Catwoman, makes her entrance, setting the stage for further complications. Episode 2 of The Enemy Within highlights the precarious nature of Bruce Wayne’s double life, where every decision influences both his allies and enemies. My choices allowed me to gain John Doe’s unwavering trust, Harley’s respect, and Tiffany’s cautious cooperation, but they also widened the divide between Gordon and Waller. While Bruce’s efforts to maintain control within The Pact proved successful, the growing attachment of John and the introduction of Catwoman pose new challenges. The deeper Bruce goes into this deception, the more difficult it becomes to distinguish friend from foe. As the story unfolds, the true consequences of these alliances remain uncertain, making the next chapter of Bruce’s journey even more perilous.
