Why does this galaxy look like a cartwheel?

The Cartwheel Galaxy is a galaxy 500 million lightyears away from Earth. Due to it's spectacular looks, scientists have had a keen interest on this galaxy. It got it's shape from a high-speed collision with another galaxy of epic proportions, triggering a cascade of events. From star formation to many supernova.
