U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the U.S. military and partner forces conducted "large-scale strikes" against ISIS targets across Syria on Saturday as part of Operation Hawkeye Strike. The operation is part of an ongoing commitment to eliminate Islamic terrorism, prevent attacks, and protect American and partner forces. The strikes follow an ambush in Syria weeks earlier, in which two Iowa National Guard members and a U.S. civilian interpreter were killed by an ISIS-affiliated gunman. Recently, U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack met with Syrian leadership in Damascus to discuss developments in Aleppo and Syria's transition. In late December, the U.S. military conducted 11 missions over 10 days, killing at least seven ISIS members and destroying weapons caches.
