This romantic comedy introduces us to Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) and Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) who develop an online romance with each other and are both unaware that they are actually business rivals by day. Kathleen owns an intimate, small, and well-loved family business book shop in New York City. However, when Fox books take up residence across the street, the fight for survival sets in, and Kathleen depends on the loyalty of her customers to keep her afloat. Meanwhile, Joe's big, impersonal and gigantic store across the road is thriving and bigger than ever leaving Kathleen's shop to go under.
