Fake Gold Loan Scam Busted in Balasore | Accused Arrested by Town Police

In a case of alleged financial fraud, Balasore Town Police have arrested a man accused of availing a bank loan using fake gold ornaments. The accused, identified as Biswajit Das from Ranipatna area, had reportedly pledged 87.3 grams of counterfeit gold jewellery at a branch of Odisha Gramya Bank in 2024 and secured a loan amounting to ₹4.48 lakh. He allegedly went absconding without repaying the loan. The fraud came to light during a bank audit after prolonged non-repayment. Following a written complaint filed on January 30 by the bank’s senior branch manager at the Town Police Station, police launched an investigation and arrested the accused.
