New Year’s Resolutions – Good or Bad for Well Being?

People have been making New Year’s Resolutions for at least 4,000 years. The Babylonians made them… so did the ancient Romans. And while lots of people continue to make them, few keep or complete them. While it’s healthy to reflect on our strengthens and weaknesses … and good to set goals, making resolutions that we don’t keep can make us feel worse about ourselves because we feel that we’ve “failed”. In this video, I discuss why New Year’s resolutions typically fail – and I provide strategies that can increase the likelihood of success IF you chose to make a resolution. I also discuss a new trend – creating a “nudge” word for yourself – that’s gaining in popularity as a healthier alternative to the standard New Year’s Resolution. As always, I’ve included a few resources below to help you find what works best for you. And please remember to download the WeBe app - https://qr.io/r/hQ3nBz - a great tool to help you track, share and strengthen your overall Well Being all year long! And if you are ever concerned about yourself or someone you love, please seek help immediately from a mental health professional. Here in the U.S., call 988 to reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to speak with someone who can help (press 1 if you’re a Service member or Veteran). You can also go to your nearest emergency department – and if you do, please be clear that you’re concerned about yourself or your loved one.
