If the New York Knicks are going to win Game 4 tonight and thus even their playoff series against the Indiana Pacers, their offensive attack is going to need to be a lot better than it was in Game 3. In a 82-71 loss, New York shot just 35 percent from the field and 27 percent from long range. Star forward Carmelo Anthony led the team with 21 points, the only Knick to score in double figures. Given how most of his teammates were struggling against Indiana's excellent on-ball defense, it looked as though all of the Knicks combined were looking for Anthony to be the savior once again. With sixth man J.R. Smith sick and on a cold streak, that didn't happen. In Game 4 tonight, such a performance is not an option. While it is important for Anthony to be at the top of his game tonight, it is even more vital that the rest of the team perform well in the scoring department. Point guard Raymond Felton must drive the lane and shoot threes like he did all throughout the regular season, and Tyson Chandler must be utilized properly now that he has worked his way back to the dominant form that made the New York fans fall in love with him last year. Simply put, the Knicks need to keep the Pacers guessing at all times. That's going to be tough tonight since Smith may miss the game with his illness. Not to mention, the incredibly dynamic Iman Shumpert is having left knee problems, according to MSG's Tina Cervasio. This means that New York will not only have to diversify its offensive attack, but look for scoring in the most unlikely of places. Veteran Jason Kidd will need to find his stroke from beyond the arc, and it could be time for head coach Mike Woodson to give extended minutes to fine shooters in Steve Novak and Chris Copeland, both of whom have been non-factors in the postseason thus far. If the attack can constantly be mixed up and the offense unpredictable, then New York can easily tie the series. If not, then the Knicks will be in a hole and will be extremely unlikely to dig themselves out of it.
