Interesting HDMI display problem on CRT HD TV

I am perplexed as to the cause of this problem... I am thinking it is just the result of the lack of detail in high resolution crt monitors, but I'm just not sure. Shoot me you're opinion. Details: Hp mini 311-1037nr with nvidia ion and atom 1.6GHz hyperthreaded cpu (N270 I believe). Sanyo ViZon integrated hdtv max resolution of 1080i and possibly 1080p. Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS x86
