A live-action feature film based on the popular DC comic book character Lobo, an blue-skinned muscle-bound alien from the utopian planet of Czarnia who works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, has been in development since the late 1990's. One of the most intriguing what-ifs of the process was a version that was to have been directed by acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie, from a screenplay penned by Angel Dean Lopez and revised by Jerrold E. Brown and Don Payne. Reteaming with Ritchie on the project following their collaboration on Sherlock Holmes would be Joel Silver through his Silver Pictures label, and joining Silver in producing would be Akiva Goldsman through his Weed Road Pictures banner. The story was to concern the titular character, with a pimped-out motorcycle, landing on Earth in search of four fugitives who are bent on wreaking havoc, reluctantly teaming up with a small-town teenage girl to stop the creatures. Ritchie planned on bringing the same irreverent, gruff tone to the film that he previously utilized on Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels; however, Ritchie would end up departing the project to instead work on Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Further attempts to get a Lobo film going with creatives such as Brad Peyton, Jason Fuchs, and even Michael Bay also died a quiet death. Follow me and ponder the question, "What if...?"
