Worst First Playthrough of Dark Souls 1 [21, Finale]

Finale, Finally That's the end of the game. I wanted to do as much on stream as possible, leaving the repetitive stuff to be done on my own time. To be fair, I did do that, especially with the dlc stuff, but I really wasn't as thorough as I was, unlike, for example, Silksong. There were a ton of npc stuff I missed and an entire magic and pyromancy system I glossed over due to the aforementioned npc stuff missage. However, to be honest, I didn't care too much to not do that on my own time because, as is very apparent in the 2nd half of these Dark Souls streams, but my enjoyment of the game has been waning for a while. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed parts of the game and I'm glad I managed to play it after so many years of wanting to try it. It's definitely a rite of passage to play a game as ancient, influential, classic, and, most infamously, difficult as this. With that said, this game is so rough around the edges that I struggle to not hate it. Things are not helped by everyone calling this game a "masterpiece," and I don't want to accuse everyone of being blinded by nostalgia, but how else can I explain them putting this game up on a pedestal compared to later installments despite how messy it really is. I think I can compare my experience to when I first played the original Half-Life recently in like 2022, where while I enjoyed my time, I saw it more as a product of its time. I could respect it as a cornerstone of its genre, where a lot of ideas that other games and even gamers take for granted come from, but otherwise as a standalone game it doesn't really hold out as well. This time, though, while I still respect Dark Souls, my loathing for a lot of aspects of the game really overpowers a lot of my enjoyment of it. I've already said pretty much all of what I have to say about the game throughout my experience, with some being more in-the-moment, less thought-out and not as serious that the others, so I don't want to repeat myself here. That said, if this game was how I knew about the Dark Souls series, or I wasn't aware of the genre it spawned or the games that come after it, I'm not sure I would have stuck around playing this for so long. I think it's funny that this stream kinda sums up my entire experience with the game. On one hand, there were some cool fights and stuff. Manus was pretty good, and I was enthralled by the love and detail they put into little stuff, like during that entire sif interaction. On the other, Kalameet's tail was one of the most boring things ever conceived by man, not to mention their fight kinda sucks doodoo. I sure do love waiting for the 2 moves that he does consistently where I can actually get its tail so much fun. Either way, I'm glad I finally got to play and finish it. As of writing, I even got to get all of the achievements. Yes, even the god awful get all rare weapons and shi one. I'm excited to play the next games in the series, though it will take a little bit of time to get to them. Both because I need to buy it and am waiting for a sale and opportunity to use my money, and also 'cause after this game I'm just so burnt out from Dark Souls rn. I added up the deaths in all of my streams and it's gotten to 502, give or take because I didn't count that thoroughly some streams. Is that good? I think that's kind of bad. Then again, if it's bad then I'm only living up to expectations. Hey, I expected to be much worse, and while I was as expectedly bad at the start, I like to think I made up for it later on. DEATHS IN THIS VOD: Total: 38 black dragon kalameet: 24 Manus Father of the Abyss: 12 TOTAL TOTAL: 502~
