Clean New World #50 - Cyan's Soul I: The Dream Stooges

Brave New World is a Final Fantasy VI hack made by BTB. The usual suspects of boosted difficulty, rebalanced skills, and so on are featured. The biggest claim to fame of BNW is the fact everyone can only equip certain espers, thusly shifting the game more towards something like Final Fantasy IX where everyone has unique roles with magic being more of a minor tool for some characters. I'm playing this hack on the Clean New World version which changes some of the dialogue throughout the game to be less dirty and nothing more. If you want to check this out, head here to keep up to date with the latest version of the hack and download it for yourselves: http://www.insanedifficulty.com/board... You will need to find a clean ROM on your own though sadly. Had to do a bit of off screen preparation in order to do this next area with the team I wanted. Anyways, we're going to take a break from getting back old characters to see what's going on in Doma Castle. You'll need to bring Cyan along of course. Doma Castle is located on the small island east of Nikeah. Inside...ghost castle! Nothing you can really do besides check for any items you missed last time or rest up in the beds. However, resting in the beds is exactly what should be done. The next morning, everyone wakes up, but Cyan apparently took the power nap option and isn't waking up. Cue three little brats known as the Dream Stooges who want Cyan's soul as their own and jump into his body. Somehow, someway, our party can do that too. Cyan's soul in divided into four sections. Not the biggest dungeon by any means. First section has your three team members split up. Whomever was in your 3rd slot will be alone and you need to get your two other team members back before going onwards. Just skip fighting things until you do that. To do this quickly, run forward and take the first door from the left. This will lead you to your character that was in the 1st slot. Get him/her back, then take the only door available here. In the next area, climb the stairs and take the door there, then the door on the right in the next area. You'll find yourself in the area with the character that was in your 2nd slot. Get him/her back, then take the nearby door. In the next area, climb up the steps to the west and take the door up here. This leads to another area with yet another door you can go through, but first...one little group of enemies I dealt with in this area! Pan Doras...nothing really special about them. They absorb fire, ice, and bolt as well as having auto-reflect. Only 1400 hp though so they die fast. Eukaryotes can use Mutate to inflict imp on a single target or cast Giga Volt upon their death (and likely as a counterattack too I reckon). Absorbs bolt & water. Anyways, preparing before going through that door...any knife users should equip dual Man Eaters. Setzer users should throw on Daryl's Soul & a Power Glove for relics and give him the Force Armor from the Purple Dragon boss fight. Your other two users should equip Reflect Rings and be geared for inflicting as much physical damage as possible. Trying to run through the next door has you run into the Dream Stooges again. Cue boss fight! Larry, Curly, Moe...an odd trio to be sure. All three are humans and thusly are weak to poison & Man Eater knives. Curly will get a Reflect spell cast on him...then you see HasteX go off on the entire enemy team. He tends to stick to physicals that hurt. Larry is the status expert, casting various status spells like Slow, Sleep, Muddle, and so on. Moe is the spells man. He'll spam lv2 elemental magics, perhaps lv3 ones too. On occasion though, he'll steal a page from the Magus Sisters' handbook and reflect a Delta Hit off of Curly onto one of your team members for 400+ damage. First order of business...drop Curly since he only has 25k hp. If you have the ability to steal, each Dream Stooge has an X-Ether available for swiping. Upon his death, Curly casts RegenX. Nothing you have to worry about honestly. As the fight progresses, Moe tries another Delta Hit...but guess what happens when his reflect mate isn't there? Yup, it smacks Larry square in the face. You have a few turns to heal up until they get done smacking each other and Larry bolts, leaving his brother to do the dirty work. Moe throws a Reflect spell onto himself and starts bouncing all manner of lv2 magics & Delta Hits off it. Heal with Tonics and chip away until he goes poof and Larry comes back. Larry does have some dangerous status effect moves. Muddle & Doom are the worst ones. So long as you can deal with those in a timely fashion, he's a quick kill. After a rather amusing entry by Shemp, the fight ends. Proceed through the door into the next section, possibly get your tail kicked in a random encounter, and save up.
