Particularly mentally, cognitively probably fatigued, low energy, mentally stagnated. likely brain fogged and groggy, maybe a difficulty focusing or thinking clearly. or even get up and do anything these symptoms do a good job of acually resembling depression. but it wasnt until i read some research or literature, which ill share in this video, that I made this connection. its noteworthy that these symptoms came AFTER you had been inoculated with a virus, the influenza virus, and you didn't have them at your baseline so what changed? inflammation. inflammation began, in both your body and brain. acute inflammation can often be triggered by an infection in the body (the brain is a part of the body) now what if I told you that chronic INFLAMMATORY disorders like heart disease, along with autoIMMUNE disorders like RA and lupus.... all seemingly unrlated to the brain or yur mood... can help precipitateor be risk factors for depression as well. what I'm trying to get at here is a potentially under-scrutinized link between inflammation and depression. 1) an inflammatory cytokine INF, usually released in response to a pathogen can be actually be used therapeutically in a clinical setting in patients for hepatitis c. guess what a common side effect of this inflammatory molecule therapy is? depression. 2) depressive episodes have been shown to increase the permeability of the brain to certain chemicals, inflammatory cytokines being one so, how is this all happening on a biochemicel level? inflammation in the body or the brain inhibits an enzyme which usually converts tryptophan to serotonin. instead, it pushes tryptophan to convert to quinolinic acid instead of serotonin (which activates nmda receptors). excess glutamate can also inhibit serotonin levels further, but thats for a different video practical tip #1 : eat things and do things are anti-inflammatory. Take omega 3's and diet high in antioxidants . Exercise creates BDNF which is Anti-inflammatory. turmeric, magnesium. #2: avoid things are pro-inflammatory. such as consuming a high amount of omega 6 oils like peanut, safflower, corn, canola, etc. take control of your health, chronic inflammatory disorder, stress. #3: avoid MSG, because of the excess free glutamate which we've seen can lower serotonin. it's a common food additive that hides in many differnet names. I'll make a future video with more on this And from a clinicians standpoint, down the line we could see an increasing ordering of lab markers for inflammation: CRP, TNF-a, IL-1b, IL-6, INF-gamma, PGE-2 levels for depression. there may be a correlation with the degree of the lab level to the degree of the depression.
