Massive Ammo Disposal Explosion in Gërdec, Albania - Mar. 15, 2008

The Gerdec explosion occurred on March 15, 2008, near Tirana, Albania, when a massive blast ripped through a military depot where old munitions were being dismantled. The explosion killed at least 26 people, injured more than 300, and destroyed hundreds of homes in nearby villages. It was one of the worst industrial disasters in Albania’s history, exposing widespread corruption and negligence in the handling of military stockpiles.
