Many empires have ruled it over the centuries, and its architecture reflects this rich heritage. From the iconic Hagia Sophia to the awe-inspiring Sultanahmet Mosque, there are countless historical sites to explore in Istanbul. In addition to its historical attractions, Istanbul is also a modern city with a vibrant culture. There are many excellent spots to escape, including the Princes' Islands, which offer stunning views of the city and the Bosporus Strait. In July 2021, my wife Carla and I spent 96 hours in Istanbul. We explored the city's many neighborhoods, from the medieval Sultanahmet District to the modern Galata Tower. We also took a ferry ride on the Bosporus Strait, which offered breathtaking views of the city skyline. One of our favorite things to do in Istanbul was to wander through the Grand Bazaar, one of the world's largest and oldest covered markets. Here, we found everything from souvenirs to spices to traditional Turkish clothing. We also enjoyed trying the local cuisine in Istanbul. From kebabs to baklava, there are many delicious foods to sample. One of our favorite restaurants was Nusr-Et Steakhouse, known for its delicious steaks and signature salt-bae ritual. Istanbul is a city that has something to offer everyone.
