Child in tears being comforted by adult STORYLINE: The first day of the new school year was marked with a ceremony at a Ukrainian cadet school in Kyiv. Volodymyr the Great school Number 23 is unique in Ukraine, as it trains children to become military cadets, starting at the age of 7. In formation, the students marched holding tasselled frames of blue and yellow ‒ the national colours. “I feel really great and proud of him enrolling here to the 10th grade, it’s his first year,” said Volodymyr Prysiazhniuk, father of Oleksandr Prysiazhniuk who had made the decision himself to attend the cadet school. The school has some 540 students. Some board on weekdays at the institution where they learn discipline and other skills many see as essential to their survival, returning to class with the country at war. Oleksandr Prokhorov, a 23 year old soldier who comes from the Luhansk Region said he was proud of his brother who was attending the school as he wanted him to follow in his path. “It’s the duty of all Ukrainians, we defend our country, our Ukraine and all together we’ll achieve victory."
