Some games teach players better than others, but the best ones usually do it without making the player feel like they're in a tutorial. In this video, I talk about how games like Minecraft, Deltarune, and Portal - and their genres - teach players through structures, trial and error, escalation, and just good game design. I also talk about how Dandy’s World handles teaching players, and why I think it sucks booty; like relying on other players to explain the game for you. Are tutorials always needed?
