Tuesday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time Lectionary: 312 📖 Today’s Readings: First Reading: 1 Samuel 16:1–13 Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 89:20, 21–22, 27–28 Alleluia: Ephesians 1:17–18 Gospel: Mark 2:23–28 In today’s readings, God overturns human expectations at every level. Samuel assumes he knows what God is looking for. Jesse assumes leadership must look a certain way. The Pharisees assume the law exists to protect their authority rather than serve life. In each case, God chooses differently—and exposes how easily even religious people mistake familiarity for faithfulness. David is anointed not because he appears qualified, but because God sees the heart. Jesus defends His disciples not by breaking the law, but by revealing its true purpose. Together, these readings confront us with an uncomfortable question: Will we trust God when His choices disrupt our sense of what is right, fair, or proper? Today’s reflection invites us to examine where we may be clinging to our own judgments instead of surrendering to God’s wiser way. 🙏 Let us pray: Lord, teach us to trust You when Your ways challenge our instincts. Free us from judging by appearances or rules alone, and shape our hearts to desire what You desire. Amen. Thank you for joining today’s reflection.
