The DBHDS Office of Child and Family Services is pleased to provide a virtual symposium on adolescent and young adult substance use and co-occurring disorders. The presenters for this symposium were selected to provide our audience with an understanding of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, lived experience through family perspectives, and an equity lens by focusing on under-represented groups such as African American females and transgender youth. Leah J. Floyd, Ph.D.: Toxic Neighborhoods and Marijuana Use Behaviors and Outcomes in Emerging Adult African American Females Dr. Leah Floyd is a Social Behavioral Scientist, with over 20 years of experience in substance use prevention research. She completed her doctoral studies in Psychology at Howard University, and completed a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in drug dependence epidemiology and presentation at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Currently, Dr. Floyd is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Norfolk State University. Her research has been funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and published in peer-reviewed journals such as Addictive Behaviors, AIDS and Behavior, and Substance Use and Misuse.
