The 24th Targa Tasmania has been run and won, the field finally crossing the finish line in Hobart after the week-long challenge that took the field over 2000 kilometres and across 500 competitive kilometres. Local hope Jason White faced some anxious times on the run to the finish line to take the modern honours. After six days of gruelling competition, Lamborghini driver Jason White has taken his fifth Targa Tasmania title in the Modern competition after a thrilling last day battle south of Hobart. White started the final day with a 74 second buffer, but faced a fast charging Steve Glenney on the final four stages, determined to cause an upset. The Nissan GT-R driver cut the margin to just 26 seconds, but in the end victory was White’s to savour, his third Targa Tasmania win in four years. In the prestigious Showroom category for production cars, Tony Quinn led from start to finish in his brand new McLaren 650S, finishing over one minute 42 seconds clear of TV personality Grant Denyer, who produced a magnificent drive in his much cheaper Renault Megane. Craig Dean in the Mustang Shelby GT500 rounded out the Showroom podium. In the Classics, South Australian Craig Haysman secured his first Classic Outright title from five tries after a brilliant drive in a 1981 Triumph TR7 V8 Last year’s winner, Barry Faux, moved up to second place in his 1985 Mazda RX7 on the final stage, edging out the 1963 Jensen CV8 of Peter Ullrich by just five seconds. Having made it back to Hobart, the drivers had their chance to celebrate their success. The taste of victory was sweet, with many already planning for 2016 and the 25th Anniversary of the tarmac classic.
