Chris Gayle Hits 50 Runs in 12 balls, Equals the Record By Yuvraj Singh in 2007 T20 WorldCup. BBL05 Melbourne Renegades vs Adelaide Strikers: Chris Gayle scores BBL's fastest ever 50, Gayle hit four sixes in a row en route to reaching 51 off just 12 balls to set a Big Bash League record and tie the world record set by India's Yuvraj Singh in the 2007 20/20 World Cup. The big-hitting left hander finally let his cricket do the talking with the most explosive 50 the Big Bash has ever seen. Opening up for the Melbourne Renegades as they looked to chase down the Adelaide Strikers’ 170 in less than 16 overs to secure a spot in the finals, the former West Indian skipper bashed and belted his way to the equal fastest half century in 20/20 cricket history. He reached 51 off 12 balls, equalling the record set by Indian Yuvraj Singh in the 2007 20/20 World Cup against England — an innings in which he hit six consecutive sixes in one Stuart Broad over. Gayle didn’t quite manage something as spectacular as that, but he did manage to clear the fence four times in four balls in only the first over of his side’s innings. The hapless bowler was the inexperienced left-armer Greg West, whose first six balls saw him grab his hat from the umpire with the figures of 0-27. Gayle’s knock set a new record for the fastest half-century in Big Bash history, beating the 18-ball mark shared by Adelaide wicket-keeper Tim Ludeman and the Brisbane Heat’s Chris Lynn. Gayle showed no mercy on the visitors’ attack, as he pummelled three more sixes and two fours before he skied one in the air and was caught by Ludeman off the bowling of Travis Head for a 17-ball 56. Just days after Chris Lynn smashed the second fastest 50 in BBL history against the Melbourne Stars — he raised his bat after 19 deliveries — Gayle showed that when it comes to 20/20 batsmen, he is still the best in the world. He has had a mixed tournament so far for the Melbourne franchise, getting several starts — including three scores in the 20s and three scores in the 40s — without really stamping his authority on a game. Well tonight was the night the shackles came off and the coolest man in cricket reminded everyone just why he’s worth watching with a bat in hand.
