This is the 1967 reissue trailer. Essentially the same as the original 1960 trailer except for an Academy tag at the front. Scanned from an actual 35mm film print that screened in theatres. Curiously this trailer, having the benefit of a few years since Stanley Kubrick was brought in to replace original director Anthony Mann, makes no mention of Kubrick, even though at this time the highly anticipated '2001: A Space Odyssey' was in production. Kubrick directed the majority of 'Spartacus'. The feature film was originally presented in 70mm Super Technirama, but was cut from 202 minutes to 161 minutes after its premiere, only to be restored to nearly its near original running time of 197 minutes (much of the original out takes, sound elements, censored material, etc from the original were thrown out by Universal) for the 1991 regular 70mm re-release - which I had the honour of projecting - a magnificent restoration and big screen 70mm presentation! Some of Spartacus was shot at 'Hearst Castle' in San Simeon, California - the inspiration of Citizen Kane's 'Xanadu' Upcoming on my main channel, I'm currently editing a 16mm home movie film of Hearst, one of his five sons, mistress Marion Davies, wild animals, and the 'Roman Pool' at Hearst Castle.
