Multiple claims for ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 have been lodged by family members of deceased Covid-19 patients. In the previous few days, 1.65 lakh petitions for ex-gratia have been received, and are expecting 2.5 lakhs in the coming days. The government took to the assembly to say over 150 crore rupees have already been spent as compensation. Under the regulations of the State Disaster Management Authority, the Chief Minister issued an ex-gratia payment to the next of kin of individuals who died of COVID-19. Ex-gratia payments are to be made to persons who’s kin were participating in relief operations or preparatory activities. However, COVID-19 should be certified as the cause of death.
