Know enough about the rules to break them! Nowhere Slow marks a definitive expansion in songwriting for me. Somewhere between the years of 1996 and ‘97 I discovered that melody wasn’t confined to conventional major and minor progressions. Chords from neighboring keys that shared similar notes could be borrowed for moments to add mystery. Chromatic arrangements would add tension while still preserving the integrity of the melody (and at times actually lead it) These were years of discovery for me. Records like The Colour and the Shape from Foofighters , Pinkerton from Weezer and Novelty Forever from Bracket helped give me permission to break the early musical rules I have imposed on myself and launch me into wider melodic horizons. Fun fact, this song is actually featured in the 1999 film Never Been Kissed featuring actress Drew Barrymore And lastly..this has been the most difficult song to play. Preserving the integrity of the complementary guitar riffs while playing those downstrokes so fast (a rite of passage for any true punk rocker) took me weeks to nail down. I literally had to do hand exercises to pull it off. G# is no joke, and neither are the forties. As always, what I look forward to most are the comments and memories shared..I love this punk rock community! (recorded on iPhone 7) I spend a lot of time on Instagram if you'd like to see more content there and check out my new pop punk project called Radical Radical. #poppunk #poppunkmemes #poppunksnotdead #poppunksnotdead #poppunkband #poppunkmusic #poppunkboy #poppunkgirl #poppunkbands #poppunkkid #poppunkcommunity #drivethrurecords #fatwreckchords #acousticcover #punk #punkrock #punkrockers #actyourage #homegrown #punkacoustic
