Pacific storms to monitor this weekend - August 6, 2022 Tropical Weather Bulletin

Whilst there are no active storms at this time, there are several areas of interest attempting to reach that status, with the highest chance currently on a promising tropical disturbance in the Eastern Pacific, safely away from the coast of Mexico. This storm is expected to form in the next 48 hours, with only the southwestern side limiting it from further development at the moment. This storm is likely to become a hurricane as it moves northwestwards away from Mexico. In the Central Pacific, the storm drought could be busted soon, with a 50% chance of development for an upcoming tropical disturbance to the south of Hawaii. Effects should not be felt on land. In the Atlantic, an area of interest is now coming up on medium range models, and a storm could develop near Cape Verde in the middle of next week and traverse the entire Main Development Region, terminating near the Bahamas. The long range forecast though is uncertain. In the Western Pacific, a tropical disturbance that delivered rainfall and thunderstorms to Luzon in the Philippines is now out over the South China Sea, and is likely to dissolve and be replaced by a much larger system. This could develop into a tropical cyclone early next week and impact southern China. In the North Indian Ocean, a chance still prevails for a tropical cyclone in the northern Bay of Bengal, but the probability is unlikely. Nonetheless, a monsoonal low at the least is expected, and is likely to deliver large amounts of rain over tracts of India in the next 7 days, with some isolated totals approaching 750mm.
