PAUL MCCARTNEY AND WINGS Tour: Wings Over The World // Leg 5: Europe Venue: Live at the Empire Pool City: London, England, UK Date: October 21st, 1976 The third night at Wembley is the 65th and final night of the 'Wings Over The World' tour, as well as Wings' final show with Joe English and Jimmy McCulloch, as they'd both leave the group through 1977. Joe would leave the group out of homesickness, while Jimmy would leave to tour with 'Small Faces' (he'd suffer an untimely demise just a couple years later, passing away in 1979 at the age of 26). Weirdly enough, it seems the band has dropped 'Blackbird' from the set for the final night of the tour (that, or there's a very well disguised cut on the tape) Once again, Paul seems to start the show in a bit of a rougher shape, struggling a fair bit with 'Jet', but he thankfully warms up as the show goes on, singing quite a respectable 'Maybe I'm Amazed' for his vocal shape and singing some pretty fantastic performances later on, he's also in quite a gutsy shape., though that ends up backfiring a bit as there's a slight blowout towards the end of the main set after a super gutsy 'Beware My Love'. The band is still in great spirits, with plenty of great moments to be heard throughout, with possibly the greatest performance of 'Medicine Jar' ever (the musicianship is INSANE here), 'Beware My Love' is also a great send-off, with some fantastic musicianship. Absolutely unfortunately, the recording from tonight's concert is in truly horrible quality, making it quite hard to enjoy overall, the higher frequencies are truly painful to listen to, and the whole tape is just an absolute mess, with some awful pitch fluctuations around 'Call Me Back Again'. If there's a show I'd love to hear from an alternate recording, it'd definitely be this one.
