1966 Edition: Twice Upon a Time - Trailer (Doctor Who)

I made a trailer for the Doctor Who Christmas Special, Twice Upon a Time if it aired in 1963! Unfortunately, for multiple reasons I can’t post the entire episode, but I can share my process if you’d like to try this yourself! And the brilliant Fuzzeke provided me witty the trailer music So, how to make this: Before I did anything I had to choose an episode to do, initially I was just going to do a previously made trailer, and quickly decided to challenge myself to one of my own. I then thought about Rose or School Reunion, but Rose didn’t really fit the project and School Reunion had many similar projects done before. The aforementioned George Sheard took the Series 10 Finale so I settled on TuaT! It wasn’t too CGI-y, was a very Classic like episode and of course had the 1st Doctor himself! The first parts are pretty much how I’d make a normal trailer, I downloaded the HD episode from Get iPlayer and cut it down into trailer worthy moments. I settled on the trailer music as it wasn’t too “epic” or rhythmic so would be fairly simple to edit to. Then I gathered some dialogue clips to use and isolated the vocals and unscored the clips using the AI website vocalremover.org (but Moises is a great alternative if you want to do multiple files at once or prefer an app). After making a trailer as I’d usually do, I painstakingly individually cropped each shot to 4:3, the aspect ratio of the Hartnell era. Next, I de-mastered(?) it by changing the video quality to 240p (same as the DVD) and messed with saturation, black point, exposure, brightness, contrast and noise to get the classic look. I also added some slight VHS effects, grain and colour bleeding to the 16:9 version. As for the audio I compressed that moderately, added the 1963 BBC ident to the start and added white noise throughout the video. To make the title sequence I got the HD 16:9 Series 10 titles, added a subtle transition and sound effect before blending the audio from the 1963 titles to the 2017 ones and removed the white noise, increased the audio slightly, used the full quality version and didn’t use any effects. Didn’t want to make it too glitchy, and the audio changes are quite hard to notice. Then did the normal YouTube stuff and made a lil sneak peek on Twitter! I’d love to hear any criticism or feedback. I wasn’t around in the 1960s and don’t really watch much Hartnell stuff so I’m sure there’s some inaccuracies or ways to improve (grain being one thing I under-did along with not warping the edges).
