It has aired continuously since its premiere on April 22, 1999, to the present, in the United States on the FOX network. SmackDown is the second-largest program after RAW, which is the company's flagship program. Until September 8, 2005, SmackDown! aired on Thursday nights; from September 16, 2005, to January 16, 2015, it aired on Friday nights. The show returned to Thursday nights on January 15, 2015. SmackDown! originally debuted in the United States on the UPN television channel on April 22, 1999, but after the merger between UPN and The WB, SmackDown! began airing on The CW in September 2006. The show ran for two years on the CW until moving to MyNetwork TV in October 2008. SmackDown moved to Syfy on October 1, 2010, until January 7, 2016. A week later, on January 14, 2016, SmackDown moved to Syfy's sister channel, USA Network. and as of October 11, 2019, it moved to its current FOX channel under the name Friday Night Smackdown. Throughout its history, SmackDown has been broadcast from 162 different arenas, in 147 cities and towns, in seven different countries (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Iraq (2006 and 2007) at the Tribute to the Troops, Japan (2005), Italy (2007), and Mexico (2011). Due to time zone differences, SmackDown has had to air hours earlier in Ireland and the United Kingdom and one day earlier in Australia, Canada, Singapore, and the Philippines than in the United States, only when it is not live, as in those cases it is broadcast by default. On October 17, 2014, the show celebrated its 15th anniversary with a special dedicated to the subject. On May 25, 2016, it was announced on the official WWE.com website that from On July 26, 2016, SmackDown began airing on Tuesday nights, with live broadcasts.
