AG Al Rawi Seeks To Clear Criminal Records Of Persons On Minor Weed Charges

Attorney General, Faris Al-Rawi, appeared in the Port of Spain High Court on Monday on an application to have charges and convictions against those held for possession of less than 100 grammes of cannabis or cannabis resin dropped. Mr. Al-Rawi, along with Minister in the Ministry of the Attorney General, Fitzgerald Hinds, appeared before High Court Judge Norton Jack. Senior Counsel Fyard Hosein made the application before Justice Jack asking that the Commissioner of Police expunge the records and remove the fingerprints from the criminal records of those who were charged or convicted of having small amounts of cannabis or cannabis resin in their possession. Justice Jack upheld three of the four clauses in the application. The matter has been adjourned to Friday.
