Australian scientists at QIMR Berghofer have discovered a new RNA molecule that specifically targets and destroys hormone receptor positive breast cancer cells, which account for 70% of all breast cancers. The molecule showed remarkable results in laboratory testing, completely eliminating advanced breast tumour cells within hours while leaving normal cells unharmed. This world-first discovery offers hope for treating drug-resistant and non-responding advanced breast cancers, particularly for the third of patients whose tumours don't respond to current treatments or develop resistance.
