The U.S. military, along with partner forces, launched "large-scale strikes" against ISIS targets in Syria as part of Operation Hawkeye Strike. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the strikes targeted ISIS throughout Syria, reinforcing the commitment to eliminate Islamic terrorism and protect American and partner forces. This action follows an ambush where two Iowa National Guard members and a U.S. civilian interpreter were killed by an ISIS-affiliated gunman and a meeting between U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack and Syrian leadership in Damascus. CENTCOM reported previous missions in late December that killed at least seven ISIS members, captured others, and eliminated weapons caches.
