"I Never Gave Up Hope," Detective Discusses Arrest Of NorCal Rapist Suspect

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the infamous NorCal Rapist case. Roy Charles Waller, 58, was arrested Thursday at his job on the campus of UC Berkeley. Waller was linked to the case via DNA, the Sacramento Police Department said. The NorCal Rapist is linked to assaults on 10 women in six counties from 1991 to 2006. "This started in 1991 in Rohnert Park, and over the next 15 years (there were) several sexual assaults in Rohnert Park, Sonoma, Vallejo, Martinez, Woodland, Chico, two sexual assaults in Davis, ending here in Sacramento 2006," Sacramento Police Chief Daniel Hahn said. "We have confirmed via DNA that Waller is the suspect in many of these crimes." Waller, a Benicia, is married and has had the same job for the past 25 years, Hahn said. One of the original detectives on the case described the attacks that Waller is accused of. "(The NorCal Rapist) would enter houses, usually late at night. Sometimes the victims would be asleep, sometimes they would be going about their activities in the evening. He would overcome them, he would bind them and then repeatedly sexually assault them. He would ransack their homes, and sometimes he would kidnap the victims and take them to ATMs where he would get money out of their accounts, and other times he would steal personal items from their homes," Detective Avis Beery said. Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert said the past 10 days were crucial to the investigation. Investigators said there could be more victims and they're asking anyone with information to contact authorities.
