TODAY'S GOSPEL: Matthew 9:9-13 As we celebrate the feast of St. Matthew, the apostle, evangelist, and apostle, we reflect on how Matthew turned over his sinful life to follow the Lord. As the Venerable Bede said: “God calls us not in spite of our sinfulness, but precisely because we are sinners.” It is because as sinners, we are good evangelizers; we are wounded healers. So we understand better what our fellow is going through. St. Ignatius of Loyola also gave a very wise advice: “If you want to influence someone, enter his/her door and lead him outside towards your door.” And it takes genuine compassion to want to enter the world of others and lead them back to the light.
