It will contribute to a line of thinking that will completely change your approach to conducting technique and your understanding of it. ...it is not easy to speak briefly about such a vast subject as “orchestral conducting”: a subject which is undoubtedly very complex . In this course of study I intend to consider some of the basic aspects of this subject. There is one which plays a very important role, perhaps even greater than you might imagine . I refer to the actual technique of conducting, that is the series of gestures the conductor uses to coordinate the performance and to transmit his personal musical interpretation to the orchestra. This is the most visible aspect of this art. This is what most strikes the imagination of the audience and the musicians. Some schools pay a lot of attention to this aspect. Other schools concentrate only on the study and interpretation of a piece, also fundamental and basic aspects , but neglect the technique of specific gestures. These schools, in fact, do not give sufficient importance to the fact that a student can, using his arms correctly, interact with the orchestra. They think that technique is not so important as to substantially influence the performance; they think that a student has to develop his own personal technique with practice and experience. But what is, in fact, the technique ? By observing the technique of playing musical instruments, we realize that it consists in learning to perform in a very precise way a series of movements , each one corresponding to a particular sound reaction. Once a musician has got hold of this technique, he uses it to give, through his instrument, a personal interpretation of what he is playing. Obviously, while playing, he does not think about technique, just as while we are speaking, we do not think of what our tongue, mouth or lips are doing. In the same way, a conductor uses certain specific movements but these can be made in slightly different ways provoking different reactions from the orchestra. This is a very important aspect....(from my book/DVD Introduction to the orchestral conducting technique Edizioni Curci Milano) #orchestralconducting #direzionedorchestra #orchestralconductingtechnique #conductingmasterclass #onlinelessons #learnconducting #orchestralconductor #conductingpatterns #ilyamusin
