NEW: PLEASE JOIN ME ON PATREON: / themobreporter Police are warning that distraction thefts are spiking. Thieves distract victims with questions and use a piece of paper — a written note, a map or pamphlet — to cover your phone, wallet or other valuable on the table and lift it away with the paper and leave before you even notice. Sometimes a scarf or hat is dropped or placed on the target item. This is frequently done in cafes, bars and restaurants and also targets service people such concierges, cashiers or clerks. It is particularly prevalent in city’s downtown areas. To help raise public awareness of the technique, City of London Police in England released CCTV video that caught the thief in the act. They initially distract the victim by asking them for directions or begging for money and placing a written note on their table, before lifting items such as mobile phones and wallets. London police offer these tops to protect yourself: Keep an eye on your belongings at all times. Never leave your bags or other valuables unattended in public places. Be discreet with your belongings; displaying expensive items, like mobile phones, could attract unwanted attention. Keep mobile phones out of view, in your pocket or bag, not on top of the table. ~ The Mob Reporter is a professional journalist bringing you real-life mob, police and true crime news and educational videos. ~ PLEASE SUBSCRIBE: http://www.youtube.com/user/themobrep... ~ Please subscribe to my other channels: • Crime Watch: / crimewatchworld • Crime in Italy: / @crimeinitaly ~ To read my news exposés and journalism in the National Post, visit: http://news.nationalpost.com/author/a... ~ For more information, visit http://www.adrianhumphreys.com.
