3News has learned that the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is now investigating a shooting involving a police officer in Euclid, which happened Sunday night in the 1400 block of East 219th Street. BCI tells 3News they were requested by the Euclid Police Department to investigate the shooting. While no officers were hurt, we have learned the person shot by police has died. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office tells 3News the victim in the shooting has been identified as 37-year-old Robert J. Riddlebarger. INCIDENT DETAILS Euclid police say officers first responded to the scene amid a reported domestic violence incident. "Upon arrival, officers located a female victim outside the residence with visible injuries," according to a press release from Euclid police. "The victim reported that her 3-year-old child was still inside the home with the male suspect and stated that the suspect had access to multiple firearms." Euclid police say officers attempted to have the man exit the residence. "When he refused, officers made entry into the home to secure the safety of the child," according to Euclid police. "During the encounter, officers were confronted by the male suspect, who was armed with a loaded rifle. An officer discharged their firearm, striking the suspect." Euclid police say officers immediately provided life-saving aid at the scene. The man was then taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. "Per department policy, the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave, which is non-disciplinary, pending the outcome of the investigation," according to police. "Certain information is not being released at this time, including the officer's identity, specific evidence details and body-worn camera video, to protect the integrity of the investigation and ensure due process for all involved." Ohio BCI responded to the scene around 10:20 p.m. to begin their investigation. "The Euclid Police Department recognizes the serious nature of this incident and the concern it may cause within the community," according to the department's press release. "The department is committed to a thorough, fair and transparent investigation and will release additional information as it becomes available and is legally permissible to do so." Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public. READ MORE: https://www.wkyc.com/article/news/loc...
