Fighting Against Modern Day Slavery: Human Trafficking | EWTN News Nightly

The estimated 40 million world-wide victims of human trafficking are called modern-day slaves. In this often hidden crime, force, fraud or coercion is used to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. One in four trafficking victims are children, and most of them are girls. In recognition of Human Trafficking Awareness Day, the US Department of Homeland Security is urging people to wear blue, even light up a landmark to join the fight. Senior Legal Counsel at the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, Dani Pinter, joins to tell us what specific tactics traffickers use and what parents should be aware of. These traffickers sometimes look for easy targets or people who are especially vulnerable like those with psychological or emotional problems. Pinter shares more about what may make a person more likely to be the target of a trafficker. Human trafficking is one of those crimes that's often hidden in plain sight. That said, there are warning signs that someone may be a victim of this crime. Pinter discusses what those indications are that something is off.
