Roy Cook demonstrates how to add special dried preparations to cow manure in a purposely constructed pit to create a manure preparation which is sprayed onto the soil. The purpose of this to kick start the 'microbial activity' in the soil which is the basis of all soil fertility in organic systems which, unlike conventional farming systems, are not reliant on inputs of water soluble chemical fertilizers to achieve vigorous plant growth. Sedlescombe was the first vineyard in England to produce certified biodynamic wine when their 'First Release' appeared in December 2010. This development followed 30 years of organic production since Roy established the vineyard in 1979.
